This platform is managed by the Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage (ICN) in cooperation with the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) and is the consequence of the Netherlands 's presidency of the European Union in 2004 . The ICN is an external department of the culture section of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. It is located in several premises in Amsterdam and Rijswijk (near The Hague). ICN’s core activities are:

  • keeping an important part of the Netherlands’s national art collection 140,000 objects) in fine order
  • organizing loans from the Netherlands’s collection, to museums, public bodies and high-ranking government officials
  • advising museums and other collections about collection management and preventive conservation
  • carrying out research on ageing and decay of materials
  • carrying out research on conservation and restoration of moveable cultural heritage
  • educating and training future conservators
